Restoration
stonemasonry
About 70% of the foundation plinth is in good repair. For the rest the stone has tended to crack where the casement frames have been bolted in. The masons must repair these cracked stones without removing the casement frame – a delicate operation. In addition the whole plinth at the east end was removed as indeed was the original door to allow garden vehicles to be parked in the greenhouse. This plinth must be rebuilt and a new door fabricated.
The masonry at the top of the back wall, however, which covers the ventilation outlets, is in good repair thanks to a project 20 years ago and needs no work.
MGM of Newcastle have been appointed to do this work.
